City rivals rematch after 2011 classic

—

The 2012 football season has reached its mid-point, and this week is highlighted by a game between the surging Blanchard High School Lions and the Bridge Creek Bobcats, a pair of city rivals.

Last season's game went down to the wire. In the final game of the regular season, Bridge Creek won 18-14 on a 38-yard touchdown pass from Chris Perraut to Brandon Carlton with three seconds remaining.

Blanchard had looked to be in good position to get the win, taking a 14-12 lead with a 22-yard field goal by Blake Barker just 30 seconds earlier.

A couple of Blanchard players put up big numbers in the game. Zach Hill caught 10 passes for 147 yards, and even threw a pass for 68 yards.

Dalton Floyd caught five passes for 136 yards.

Quarterback Brock Lamle threw for more than 300 yards, but none of those players was able to get into the end zone. Braden Stringer had Blanchard's only touchdown.

Head coach Jeff Craig said the Lions had trouble finishing drives and games last season, but that hasn't been the case in 2012.

Blanchard is 4-0, and has blown out all its opponents this season.

Bridge Creek comes into the game with a 2-1 record, coming off wins over St. Mary's and John Marshall, after losing the season-opener against Washington.

It's the beginning of a tough two-game stretch for the Bobcats that includes Blanchard this week and a home game against Tuttle next week.

Blanchard will be the home team for tonight's game, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
